Family law

Family law in the Netherlands is a mixture of modern innovations, such as marriage for same sex couples and equal rights for parents, and -until 2018- an archaic marital property system, which is still relevant for all marriages concluded before the law was changed. The Dutch family courts can also be particularly conservative when it comes to issues regarding alimony or children.
